COURSE OUTLINE

Translation Definition: translation is regarded as the reproducing of a source language (SL) text into the target language (TL) so as to ensure that:

  1. the surface meaning of the two will be approximately similar;
  2. the structure of the SL will be preserved as closely as possible but not so closely that the TL structure will be seriously distorted.

(translation is substitution of SL meanings to TL but not transference/implantation of SL meanings to TL)

TRANSLATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Translator should have working knowledge of Source Language and near-native proficiency in Target Language.
  2. Should have command over both linguistic and translation skills & must be familiar with the application of translation techniques & cultural nuances.
  3. Sound knowledge of both English & French grammar, syntax & vocabulary (must be familiar with online dictionaries like Wordreference, Termium plus, Linguee, etc.
  4. Preferably proficient in CAT tool (SDL TRADOS Studio) if mandated by Company, Client or Translation agency.
  5. Ability to maintain accuracy, consistency and flow of translations while adhering to delivery deadlines.
